Brad Schimel, a former Wisconsin attorney general and Supreme Court candidate, is taking over as interim U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District.
Schimel most recently ran for state Supreme Court, a race where he received the backing of President Donald Trump.
The naming of an interim U.S. attorney, rather than nominating one for a full term, indicates the normal process broke down.
