US Sen. Jon Husted set to testify remotely in ex-FirstEnergy executives’ corruption trial

U.S. Sen. Jon Husted is scheduled to testify remotely in Akron in the high-profile corruption trial of two former FirstEnergy Corp. executives. As a defense witness for former CEO Chuck Jones and former lobbyist Michael Dowling, the Republican will likely be asked Wednesday to corroborate details of the many meetings, emails and texts referenced at trial where his name has been mentioned. Husted was Ohio’s lieutenant governor-elect in early 2019, when prosecutors allege Jones and Dowling bribed Ohio’s future top utility regulator in exchange for legislative and regulatory favors. Jones and Dowling argue the $4.3 million settled a business agreement.
