O’Fallon city leaders want to boost economy, jobs. They hope a new tax will do the trick.

The proposal would generate $6.75 million annually and would cost shoppers an additional 37.5-cents for every $100 spent at an O’Fallon business.

Instead, the County Council hopes to use the $9 million earmarked for it to widen Highway N in western St. Charles County.
If approved, O’Fallon would become the second city in St. Charles County to ban some residential construction this year.
